Choices – A Brand New Phone App for Young People
Young Solutions has been working with partners West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner, University of Worcester’s Media Lab and Storm Videos to produce a phone app raising awareness of problems that many young people face. The app is called Choices and goes under the strap line ‘Stay Safe, Be Aware’. The app was launched in early July 2017 and evolved from an idea generated by school students at St John’s School in Bromsgrove for a PCC competition. The winning idea was developed into an app with the help of theatre group Perfect Circle and North Bromsgrove High School. The app consists of five videos that pose dilemmas around bullying, theft, hate crime, anti-social behaviour and inappropriate relationships. It places before the user choices of how they may want to act. The choices arise from the five different scenarios and asks the user to decide which action they would follow. The consequences of their decision is then illustrated by further short video clips.
The app was launched at the University of Worcester Arena by West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion. He said “This app is a fantastic and engaging way of guiding young people through some really important subjects; particularly if they’re being affected by them and perhaps aren’t sure where to turn”.
The app can be downloaded for free from the App Store or Google Play – Search for Choices: stay safe, be aware
