Course Details
It can be really difficult for many people to make positive long term life changes – many of us know from personal experience around things like giving up smoking, losing weight, exercising more. So how do we motivate and support people we work with to make positive life choices? How can we overcome resistance or ambivalence? We will explore service user centred communication techniques — focused on being empathetic, non-judgmental, and supportive — which helps people to express their own reasons for change and take responsibility for their own behaviour. This one day course will give you practical tools to use including effective use of questions, reflective listening and eliciting the pros and cons of change.
