Alongside giving advice and support, Young Solutions delivers demonstration projects around issues that we feel are important to the sector.

These partnership projects are used to highlight issues, develop learning and encourage organisations to try new ways of working together. They also allow us to maintain our team’s skills and first-hand knowledge.

We usually deliver these projects with other voluntary, statutory or private sector organisations and focus on several key areas – Volunteering and Inclusion, Youth Unemployment and Youth Engagement. This is an overview of our current work:

Youth Unemployment

We are committed to challenging the damaging effect that unemployment has on young people, especially those with additional needs or from complex backgrounds, and this area of work is particular important to us. Our current projects are:

  • Seek and Reach – our European Social Funded Seek and Reach project supports those young unemployed people who, for one reason or another, have found it hard to get employment or go into training.

Volunteering and Inclusion

We believe that all young people deserve an equal chance and sometimes see young people with disabilities who are not able to take part in activities. Our projects generally have two overarching aims: to increase the skills, confidence and chances for those with disabilities, and to decrease the stigma around those who are ‘different’. We find volunteering a powerful tool to achieving both of these.

Although volunteering and inclusion remain a focus for our work, we are not currently delivering any specific projects in this area.

Youth Engagement

We feel it is important to make sure the views of young people are heard and that young people get a say in the delivery of services that affect them. As the Youth Cabinet says, “Nothing about us without us!”. Our current projects are:

  • Youth Engagement Network Group – a cross-Worcestershire networking group for partners working in youth engagement to encourage closer working, to reduce duplication of engagement activities and to share ideas. The Group currently has over 60 members from a wide range of voluntary and statutory organisations. Contact us if you would like to find out more or join the group.

We also offer advice and guidance to organisations about ways to involve young people. This often includes:

  • Structures which involve children and young people
  • Creating an appropriate atmosphere for involving children and young people
  • Involving children and young people in recruiting staff and volunteers
  • Involving children and young people in planning programmes and activities
  • Getting feedback from children and young people

Contact us if you would like to find out more or would like us to come and speak to your organisation or management committee.
