Shape Up For Work
Young Solutions has received Big Lottery funding to deliver Shape Up for Work, a brand new project aimed at improving unemployed young people’s fitness, health as well as building confidence. Fitness training will contribute to tackling feelings of low-self-esteem, self-assurance is a trait that many employers look for at interviews. Feeling fit can make people feel better about themselves and this in turn can help their confidence and their chances of finding work. Shape up for Work is a 10 week fitness programme that also offers advice on diet and on applying for jobs and training. It will commence in Bromsgrove in February 2016 and will be offered in two other locations across Worcestershire. Phil Street manager of Young Solutions said that World Health Organisation has stated that youth unemployment in the UK is a “health time bomb waiting to explode”, this project will help improve young people’s health by providing fitness training. He went on to say “there is no charge for the fitness sessions and each session lasts about an hour. Some of the sessions will be followed by advice from an employment guidance expert.” Everyone taking part in Shape up for Work will get a fitness plan. The plan will help them with their stamina, diet and their weight. The project will offer fitness sessions, but also provide ideas for exercising at home. Every effort will also be made to get Shape Up for Work participants into training or employment.
The first session is on Tuesday 2nd February from 12.30 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Verve Martial Arts, Sherwood House, Sherwood Road, Bromsgrove, B60 3DR.
