Steve Lister, Director of Sales and Marketing at Worcester Bosch opened the 2017 Tryangle Awards evening by saying that he was delighted to welcome everyone to the Awards presentation, but felt both honoured and humbled by the achievements of the young people who were to be recognised. Eighteen young volunteers, many of whom had to overcome personal or health issues to become involved in volunteering, received awards. This was the 12th Annual Tryangle Awards and in addition to support from Worcester Bosch five other companies and the Margaret Westwood Charitable Trust had also supported the Awards and helped ensure the success of what is now the county’s premier youth volunteering award.

Amongst this year’s award recipients was Brad Peak. He received an Award in the Personal Development category for his volunteering activities at Your Ideas in Redditch. Those attending the Awards evening heard that Brad has experienced some inter-personal and communication difficulties, but through his interest in sports, he was encouraged to work with the Sports Coach. Brad started volunteering by helping provide sports activities for younger members. He is now a fantastic example of a young person who has made great changes to their outlook on life.

Murren Harker was another recipient and her Award was in the Citizenship and Environment category. Murren was nominated by Worcester Sixth Form College. She is regarded as someone who has undergone a heart-warming transformation, from a shy, quiet young woman to a key volunteer and peer mentor who also volunteers in her own time as a Student Ambassador. She’s now described as helpful and welcoming to all she meets and well deserving of recognition.

In the Bravery category one of the recipients was Sophie Allard who her school, Blessed Edward Oldcorne says, inspires the whole community. Sophie lost her mum in 2016, but throughout her mum’s illness, and despite being only 12 years old, she showed great personal resilience and went into school as much as she could. Although she faced difficult days she never lost her positive and enthusiastic attitude, handling the situation with much maturity.

These are three examples of the young people who had a light shined on their volunteering work through being nominated for a Tryangle Award.

The Awards evening was summed up by Gareth Brown, Managing Director of Red Admiral Learning, one of the Awards sponsors, who said ‘It was a real pleasure to present some the awards and it was wonderful to hear such inspirational stories.’
