Young Solutions Worcestershire – formerly known as Worcestershire Council for Voluntary Youth Services (WCVYS) – is the voluntary youth sector infrastructure organisation for the county.
WCVYS was established as a charity in 1998 following the division of Hereford and Worcestershire into two separate counties. It became a company limited by guarantee in 2008. Initially it was entirely volunteer-run, only employing its first paid member of staff in 1999. Between then and 2006 WCVYS had periods when it had paid staff and times when it was run by volunteers.
It appointed a paid manager in 2006 and in 2008 successfully tendered for the vInspired volunteering project. This work, combined with support from the County Council and the Children’s Workforce Development Council, led to considerable growth.
In 2011, as a result of the government spending review, WCVYS lost an enormous proportion of its revenue budget and went through substantial contraction.
Since then the organisation has undergone significant change, re-focusing its activities and although it remains the county’s voluntary youth infrastructure organisation it now places emphasis on delivering projects. It has gradually restored its level of activity and was re-named and re-branded in July 2015.
