Healthwatch gives a voice to children, young people and adults from all communities, including those whose voices are often unheard.

Healthwatch makes sure people can:

  • access the right service
  • get the best out of local publicly-funded health and care services
  • influence the design and delivery of publicly-funded local services where they should or could be improved

We were contracted by Healthwatch Worcestershire to find out the views of young people and parents of children about health and social care services in Worcestershire (such as doctors’ surgeries, hospitals and CAMHS). During our contract, we visited many groups and organisations to hear young people and parent’s stories, found out opinions and carried out projects around selected topics. Here is a summary of our work:

  • Spoke to 315 young people and parents to find out their views about health and social care services
  • Raised awareness of and shared Healthwatch information with 332 professionals
  • Mapped current forums and networks used to engage with young people and parents of children and reviewed their effectiveness
  • Organised two Healthwatch Takeover Day events – one for young people to meet health and statutory service providers, and one for 16 young people at Pershore Civic Centre
  • Surveyed young people for their views about GP practices
  • Surveyed young people about the Children and Adolescents Mental Health Service (CAMHS)
  • Surveyed parents of under 5s about maternity advice and support, and additionally the effect of the closure of maternity services at Redditch Hospital
  • Carried out focus groups with Young Carers and Looked After Children
  • Visited homeless support organisations to survey young people about access to services – this fed into a larger Healthwatch project

You can read reports from our work here on the Healthwatch website.
