Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Checks – All you ever wanted to know (and more!)
Young Solutions are a registered umbrella body for the Disclosure and Barring Service. This means we provide a responsive and prompt DBS checking service, primarily to the voluntary youth sector, and organisations can have confidence that new staff and volunteers are appropriately checked and that existing staff have their DBS updated swiftly and thoroughly.
Our service helps to ensure that proper ‘staffing’ decisions are made in such a way that it prevents unsuitable people from working with children and young people.
We have recently updated our online “DBS Useful Information” page and it now contains links to relevant and up to date information from both Young Solutions and the Disclosure and Barring Service about DBS checks. The information includes:
- Young Solutions’s Determining DBS Eligibility Guide – with information about all the different types of DBS check, ie Basic, Standard, Enhanced and Barred List Check
- Link to DBS’s online Eligibility Tool – useful for a quick assessment of the type of DBS check likely to be required for a specific role
- Links to DBS and government documents and regulations giving detailed guidance about different roles and the checks available, especially for those in the charity sector
- Link to DBS Update Service – the online subscription service that allows staff/volunteers to keep their Standard or Enhanced DBS certificate up to date and allows employers to check a certificate online.
